FAQ - Version 0.02
What is Mail Art Detection - MAD?
MAD is a social art project - created and maintained by the artist Juan Petry. MAD is a service to generate keys. This keys could be used to mark cards and letters. The receiver could confirm the arrival by storing the key in this website. The sender could later watch, if the Mail Art arrived. The tracking uses only hashs. No personal data is stored in a database of anyfree.org. The service is free and will stay free as long as the artist is able to support it.
Is it free?
MAD is free and will stay as a free service. It is great if you like this service. Your could support the project.
Is it secure?
Nothing is secure. Especially a military infrastructure like internet is by design not secure. But it might be useful to explore the option to use such a network for the real benefit of the many. This is the mission of MAD. It should help to identify deliveries working and not working. If data is the new oil, here is no oil at all. By design we do not gather and store personal information.
How i get a master key to generate keys for my tracking?
You apply by the artist directly. Use the about page for contact details.
What happens if i loose my master key? Can i restore / renew it?
Maybe. If you apply for a master key you get a mail with a set of questions like: Start with the letters HgtY and add your first prename, the number of the entrance of your house, where you are living in, the name your pat and your favorite number. We will provide you in this mail with a link to define once a master key based on your collection (could be in this case something like HgtYPaul11Mickey42. If you still have your mail your could recinstruct the collection to reinvent your master key. You will use the key on the website, but we will store only a hash based in this collection.
I can create only 20 keys at once. What i should do if i need more?
You create the first 20, than the next 20, and so on. The limitation is only to ensure an exceptable speed / response for the service.
What happens if the receiver does not confirm the delivery?
Nothing. The delivery will stay open. It works only if both sides of the communication line are working together. But ensure that the receipient is able to understand that you welcome the confirmation very much!
What happened if this service become known and successful, is it able to scale up?
We will see. In the first time this website and the data-center-server might support the load. If we would run into trouble with DOS attacks or heavy traffic load we will decentralize the service if possible (wordpress plugin or similar)!
